A chance to close the gap
Rennes can consolidate their place in Ligue 1’s top two, while Nice have the chance to turn an 11-point start into a two-point gap with a home victory. After eight matches, Rennes sit second on 16 points and Nice are tenth on 11, making this a consequential meeting in the early qualification race.
The positions underline the difference between the sides so far, but Nice’s home record offers encouragement: they are unbeaten in four league matches at the Allianz Riviera, with two wins and two draws. Rennes have collected only one win in three away games, despite their stronger overall start.
Rennes bring the sharper attack
Both teams have won three of their last five, but Rennes’ attack has been more productive: 11 goals in that span, compared with seven for Nice. Across the season, Rennes have scored 18 goals in eight matches; Nice have scored eight.
Nice have been more secure at home than away, conceding three times in four home fixtures. Rennes, by contrast, have conceded nine goals in three away matches. That vulnerability could give Nice a route into the game, though Rennes’ scoring record suggests they will pose a persistent threat.
Recent meetings favour Rennes
The last five Ligue 1 meetings are split three wins for Rennes and two for Nice. Rennes won the most recent encounter between these sides at the Allianz Riviera, 4-0 in March, while Nice’s latest home win in the sequence was a 3-2 result in January 2025.
Absences to navigate
Nice are without L. Abergel and M. Bombito through knee and leg injuries respectively, while A. Mendy is also out with a knee injury. A. Seidu is unavailable under a loan agreement, and A. Abdi is questionable with a muscle injury.
Rennes are missing E. Lepaul with an ankle injury and B. Samba with a thigh injury.
Rennes’ scoring edge
Rennes’ 18 goals in eight matches make their attack the standout difference in the teams’ season numbers. Nice will look to their unbeaten home run and comparatively solid home defence, but they must contain a side that has scored 11 times in its last five outings.
Our prediction
Rennes’ greater scoring output gives them the edge, even with their away defensive record leaving Nice room to threaten. PreviaXI’s model favours the visitors in a match where both sides should have chances.
Nice 1-2 Rennes
